Part II: Michael Harren, The Animal ShowBrooklyn-based composer and performer Michael Harren combines elements of classical composition with experimental electronics and storytelling to create hypnotic and boldly intimate work that walks the line between Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel and Dead Can Dance. He is artist-in-residence at Tamerlaine Farm Animal Sanctuary where he created the solo multi-media theater piece The Animal Show, which premiered in New York City in 2016 and continues to be performed in venues throughout the United States. In his first solo show, Tentative Armor, he combined piano, synthesizers, various electronics, and live musicians with his unique storytelling, resulting in a deeply moving, highly entertaining performance. Through his resonant, powerful, very personal stories, Harren envelops the audience in a funny, poignant, highly intimate tour of his own self-discovery through spirituality, sexuality, and grief. Music, text and photos from the show were released in an album and book of the same name. Michael Harren has toured as pianist with Sandra Bernhard, is the musical director for Cabaret for a Cause, and has performed at Dixon Place, (le) poisson rouge, Joe’s Pub, Judson Memorial Church, Manhattan Theater Source, The Duplex, Don’t Tell Mama, The Laurie Beechman Theater as well as numerous venues around the country. Michael is a Moogfest artist who presented No Permission Needed: Create with Senator Jaiz at Moogfest 2017.

Carol Adams, BurgerCarol J. Adams is the author of numerous books, including The Sexual Politics of Meat, Neither Man nor Beast: Feminism and the Defense of Animals and The Pornography of Meat. She is the co-editor of several pathbreaking anthologies, including most recently Ecofeminism: Feminist Intersections with Other Animals and the Earth (with Lori Gruen). Her work is the subject of two recent anthologies, Defiant Daughters: 21 Women of Art, Activism, Animals, and The Sexual Politics of Meat and The Art of the Animal: 14 Women Artists Explore The Sexual Politics of Meat, in which a new generation of feminists, artists, and activists respond to Adams’ groundbreaking work.

Veganics! Stephane Groleau and Meghan Kelly founded the Veganic Agriculture Network in 2008 to promote farming and gardening that is free from chemicals and animal by-products. Their website www.goveganic.net features profiles of veganic farms in North America, and introduces people to the main concepts of farming and gardening in a way that is environmentally sustainable and compatible with a vegan ethic. In 2004, Stephane visited veganic farms in Europe for 9 months, and began the website www.vegeculture.net to promote veganic agriculture in the French language. He has a diploma in Organic Agriculture from the Cegep de Victoriaville and is a frequent writer for the magazines BioBulle and Growing Green International. Stephane and Meghan both garden veganically in the village of St-Casimir, Quebec.

Part I: Barry Wray, GM MosquitoesBarry Wray helped form the Florida Keys Environmental Coalition in 2010 in response to threats for the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill to the ecosystems and livelihood of the FL Keys. His leadership at that anxious and critical point in time was a rallying point for many within the community and the efforts put forth resulted in a number of resiliency accomplishments including over 400 people within the Keys community becoming HAZWOPER qualified to assist with any response to oil intrusion, inclusion into a variety of EOC operation plans to provide access to qualified local volunteer base and an energized network of local volunteers who have remained active and available within the community. Barry, together with a team of Keys wide activists, who range from globally recognized PhD and Medical Doctors to Moms and Realtors, has helped lead the defense of the Keys from the premature release of Genetically Modified Mosquitoes until they are proven safe, championed changes to aerial chemical dispersal to prevent contamination to potable water system and pioneered a novel engineered approach to improving near shore water quality in the Keys using indigenous filter feeder species in engineered habitats. For over 30 years Barry Wray has considered the Keys as part of his life and settled permanently in Islamorada 20 years ago. Barry has a Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts along with years of extensive project management and global engineering achievements for companies like GE and Ericsson. Currently, Mr. Wray serves and the Chief Technologist for Solarbeam International, specializing in renewable energy powered perimeter intrusion detection security systems. Barry also has a long history of public service including student government president, helping found the largest student association in the history of Massachusetts (the State Student Association of Massachusetts) and served on its board and as its Chair, and 9 years of service including Chairmanship of the Workforce and Affordable Housing subcommittee and 5+ years on the Water Quality Subcommittee for the Village of Islamorada,

As a marketing communications professional for over 20 years, Grillo has worked on big food industry brands where he acquired a behind-the-scenes perspective on food branding and marketing. His is the author of Farm to Fable: The Fictions of Our Animal Consuming Culture, which reveals how popular culture conditions us to consume animal products and how a better understanding of these fictions can empower us to help them, ourselves and the planet The book is the basis of his keynote presentation of the same name.
